Unimax’s new frontier – telecom administration APIs


If you’ve followed this blog since its inception but somehow forgotten about a company named Unimax, allow me to refresh your memory. Unimax is based in Minneapolis and has a foothold in the niche of telecom administration management. I’d written about the company and its products during VoiceCon 2010 in Orlando. Now the company has opened up its telecom administration platform to third parties, releasing an SDK and offering a middleware called 2nd Nature Web Services Foundation. Your IT or Telecom Department can finally create applications in any programming language and use the Web Services Foundation to customize your own needs in terms of telecom administration via HTTP/S. And these days, everybody loves web services because of their simplicity and maintainability.

Besides, the SDK is free — a price that cannot be beat.

MINNEAPOLIS, December 13, 2010 – Unimax Systems Corporation®, a leading provider of telecommunications provisioning applications and configuration management software, today announced that it has released a new middleware product called 2nd Nature Web Services Foundation and a related API for multi-vendor phone, messaging, and directory service systems. The company has also released an SDK (Software Developer Kit) for the product, giving developers the tools they need to quickly and easily develop applications that use the Web Services Foundation and its API. The SDK is available to developers free of charge starting today.

Designed specifically for voice system integrators, managed service providers, third party developers, and enterprise Telecom and IT departments, the Web Services Foundation product and SDK include a comprehensive set of tools to create, test, and deploy both thin and thick client telecom administration applications. These applications can be developed in any programming environment (e.g., ASP.NET, Perl, PHP, Python, etc.) and easily interface with the web services API. Simple examples include provisioning a new phone and/or mailbox, resetting a password, or changing a forwarding number. Since applications are customized, organizations have complete control over which capabilities are made available to their end-users and which functions are automated. The Web Services Foundation is based on Unimax’s 2nd Nature product which takes advantage of its broad set of management facilities and support for all major phone, messaging, and directory service systems from Cisco, Avaya/Nortel, AVST, Microsoft, and others.

“Our new Web Services Foundation product provides an extensive set of services through an industry standard REST API using HTTP or HTTPS which greatly simplifies the deployment and maintenance of applications in distributed enterprise environments,” said David Myers, Unimax Director of Product Development. “Web applications can be either hosted on a corporate web server, such as Microsoft IIS, or they can be hosted directly on the Web Services Foundation server.
